Dr. Javier Moradiellos is a specialist in thoracic surgery and has 12 years’ professional experience in the field of thoracic surgery, lung transplants and research.
He is Associate Professor of Medicine at the European University of Madrid, as well as an Assistant Professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has worked as a thoracic surgeon at Quirónsalud Madrid University Hospital since it opened and his professional areas of interest include robotic surgery with the Da Vinci system, video-assisted thoracic surgery, advanced-stage oncological surgery and thoracic wall malformation surgery.

He is a member of the main scientific associations of his speciality, including the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS), the Spanish Association of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR), Neumomadrid, etc.; he is also a regular reviewer of specialist journals, and has attended many congresses.
- He has written over 30 national and international scientific publications in journals of impact and have given over 50 presentations and papers at specialist congresses. He has written and co-written over 30 book chapters and monographs. His research experience has developed mainly in the field of oncological thoracic surgery and lung transplantation, with various funded research projects.
- In 2009, he performed the first ex vivo lung perfusion on human lungs from uncontrolled donors in cardiac arrest (Maastricht Type II), and in 2011, he performed the first post-portable ex vivo perfusion lung transplant (OCS System), which allows human lungs to work outside the body, while they are being transported to the implant hospital.
